Simamkele ‘Sims’ Mchako is a writer and filmmaker with experience in short film screenwriting, directing and editing. He studied at the University of Cape Town, where he obtained his BA as well as Honour’s Degrees, in Film Production and Screenwriting respectively. He worked as a lecturer at AFDA for two years while building his content creating production company, Creative Kontrol – where he mentors young upstarts from Port Elizabeth on the art of filmmaking and producing content. Simamkele believes in the growth South African filmmakers, and how they could reach a point of creating a filmic movement akin to the likes of Italian Neorealism and German Expressionism in order for us to have our own filmmaking identity that can permeate the rest of the world.
