Jacques is a passionate filmmaker and tertiary educator with more than a decade of experience in creative writing, directing, cinematography, and post-production. He started his career as a freelancer in the film industry and moved on to writing opinion pieces and reviews for pop culture websites. He graduated with a B.A. in Psychology, Literature, and Linguistics and went on to study film and visual media at the University of the Free State where he attained his Honours degree with a specialization in film production. Since then, he has written and directed several award-winning short films as well as a TV pilot. More recently, he’s been working as a film school lecturer where he supervises student script and film development. His approach to the creative process is informed and enriched by a profound interest in psychology and linguistics. As a mentor, it is his primary goal to foster essential theoretical, critical and conceptual thinking, as well as practical skills in order to nurture a holistic understanding of visual storytelling, which he believes is crucial to being a successful screenwriter and filmmaker.
